He wants to try to get a good divorce. But he also wants to draw up a divorce agreement and just have it notarized without including it in the court documents. His reasoning is that the less control the court has, the better. He's afraid the courts will come after him.

What worries me is that he plans not to give me the remaining 40,000. While I really hope he doesn't, he can be vindictive, controlling and entitled.

I can see that my best option is to sue him in court. However, the relationship with him is so strained that for my own mental well-being I wonder if it would be completely foolish to do it separately and have it notarized.
