Definitions for various types of MDs (MD, active MD, active implantable MD, etc.) are provided on the FAMPH website in section: Human medicines > Health Products > Medical devices and their accessories > Generalities > Definitions
MDs are listed according to four product categories (class I, IIa, IIb and III) according to the degree of risk when used. The classification rules are described in appendix IX of the Royal Decree of 18 March 1999 (fr) relating to medical devices.
