Sponsor - Definition (pursuant to national law)
The sponsor who is an individual, company or organisation takes responsibility for the initiation, management and /or financing of a clinical trial.

Several tasks can be delegated by the sponsor to the (coordinating) investigator by contract, but not the legal responsibility.
